JD.com and ARCore by Google Host Innovative Consumer Application Competition in China

JD.com, China’s largest retailer, is taking the retail industry by storm with the launch of the JD-AR & ARCore by Google Innovative Consumer Application Competition. This exciting competition is set to bring together AR software developers from around the world to create groundbreaking augmented reality applications for the retail sector.

Partnering with retail giants such as Walmart, Mead Johnson, and JD.com’s retail experience shops, developers will have the opportunity to tackle real-life challenges faced by these brands. The main objective of the competition is to explore how AR technology can be leveraged to attract and retain customers both online and offline, as well as optimize omnichannel targeted marketing strategies in various retail scenarios.

Top teams participating in the competition stand a chance to receive investments from VCs, membership in the JD-AR Alliance, official certification from ARCore by Google, exposure to investors and brands, and the opportunity to have their solutions integrated into JD’s primary apps.

Tony Tan, head of AR/VR at JD.com, expressed his excitement about the partnership with ARCore by Google, stating, “We look forward to seeing how the solutions resulting from this contest will be rolled out in actual retail scenarios to further enhance the customer experience.”

Carrie Shiung, Google AR/VR China Country Lead, also shared her enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the potential for discovering new talent in the growing AR industry and revolutionizing the businesses of partner brands.

JD.com has been at the forefront of incorporating AR technology into both offline and online retail environments through services like JD’s AR Shopping, AR Marketing, AR Fitting Room, and AR Styling Station. By utilizing ARCore by Google, JD is able to offer customers a unique shopping experience, allowing them to visualize products before making a purchase.

The AR contest is now open for applications until May 25, 2019. Developers interested in participating can apply via the competition website or contact the organizers for more information.
