Dr. Paul Chin Makes History with Augmented Reality Shoulder Replacement Surgery
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Dr. Paul Chin, MD, PhD, FAAOS, FAANA, of Sterling Ridge Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, has made history by becoming the first surgeon in Texas – and one of the first in the nation – to use augmented reality for a shoulder replacement surgery.
Dr. Chin recently utilized Medacta’s NextAR Shoulder Augmented Reality Surgical Platform during a complex shoulder replacement procedure at CHA Tomball. This innovative technology enhances surgical accuracy by providing real-time updates, sensory assistance, and feedback through a Google Glass-type eyewear system.
Having trained extensively with the NextAR system in Chicago, Dr. Chin was able to bring his preoperative plan directly into the operating room, allowing for instant updates and feedback during the surgery. This advancement in orthopedic surgery aims to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
