Amdocs Reveals Technology Trends Set to Transform Viewer Experience at UEFA Euro 2024
Amdocs, a leading provider of software and services to communications and media companies, has recently unveiled groundbreaking research on the technology that will revolutionize the way fans experience major sporting events, including the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 tournament. The tournament, set to take place at various venues across Germany from June 14th to July 14th, has sparked immense excitement among football enthusiasts, with home nations England and Scotland gearing up to compete on the international stage.
In a bid to understand the preferences and expectations of UK football fans ahead of the tournament, Amdocs commissioned Censuswide to conduct a survey of over 1,000 respondents. The findings shed light on the evolving landscape of sports viewing, with a significant shift towards digital platforms and innovative technologies.
According to the survey results, more than 70 per cent of respondents expressed their intention to watch at least one Euro 2024 match live on terrestrial TV, while 42 per cent revealed their preference for live streaming. Notably, younger fans aged 16-24 exhibited a stronger inclination towards live streaming, with 70 per cent opting for this method compared to just 21 per cent of those aged 55 and above. This trend suggests a gradual transition towards streaming as the preferred mode of consuming live sports content in the years to come.
The research also highlighted the growing interest in immersive technologies among football fans, with nearly a third of respondents expressing a desire to experience a Euro 2024 match using virtual reality (VR) technology. Additionally, features like a 360-degree, user-controlled view of the match and augmented reality (AR) experiences, such as player profiles, garnered significant interest among respondents, indicating a demand for enhanced interactive experiences.
Furthermore, the survey delved into connectivity and roaming services, revealing that a majority of fans would be interested in an app offering enhanced match experiences, with a significant portion willing to pay for premium features. Concerns regarding mobile connectivity while roaming at crowded events like Euro 2024 were also raised, underscoring the importance of reliable network infrastructure to ensure a seamless viewing experience for fans on the go.
Despite the rise of live streaming, the survey found that many football fans still value the communal experience of watching a match with fellow supporters. Over a third of respondents expressed their intention to watch a Euro 2024 match at a public event, such as in a pub or bar, highlighting the enduring appeal of shared viewing experiences.
Gil Rosen, Chief Marketing Officer at Amdocs, emphasized the growing excitement among football fans leading up to Euro 2024 and the potential for service providers to enhance the viewing experience through cutting-edge technologies. With virtual reality, augmented reality, and other innovative features continuously evolving, subscribers can look forward to an unparalleled sporting experience that brings them closer to the action on the field.
As the countdown to UEFA Euro 2024 begins, the stage is set for a new era of sports viewing, where technology and innovation converge to elevate the fan experience to new heights.
