Snap Partners with Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for AR Try-On Experience

Snap’s Latest AR Collaboration Brings Fashion to Life at San Francisco Museum

Snapchat has once again proven its commitment to augmented reality (AR) technology with a new partnership with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The collaboration will bring an immersive AR try-on experience to the museum’s latest exhibition, “Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style.”

Using Snap’s AR Mirrors technology, museum visitors will have the unique opportunity to virtually try on three evening ensembles from the exhibit, featuring designs from iconic fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino. This innovative experience will be available throughout the duration of the installation, running from Jan. 20 to Aug. 11 at the de Young facility.

Snap’s global head of fashion & beauty, Rajni Jacques, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is a testament to how augmented reality can infiltrate culture, encourage creativity and self-expression, and bring historic couture to life like never before.”

This collaboration marks the first time Snap’s AR Mirrors technology has been featured in a U.S. museum, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of AR innovation. Snap has previously worked with artists and institutions around the world, including collaborations with the Louvre in France.

The partnership with the de Young museum underscores Snap’s focus on engaging digitally native audiences, particularly Gen Z consumers. By leveraging AR technology to enhance the museum experience, Snap is helping to bridge the gap between traditional art and modern technology.

Snap’s continued investment in AR technology has paid off, with the company reporting a 5% year-over-year revenue boost in the third quarter of 2023. As Snap prepares to release its Q4 earnings, the success of its AR initiatives demonstrates the potential for technology to transform the way we engage with art and culture.
