Mojang Ends VR Support for Minecraft on PC: What Players Need to Know
Minecraft Developer Mojang Ends Official VR Support for PC and PSVR
In a recent announcement buried in the patch notes for Minecraft’s latest Bedrock 1.21.40 update, developer Mojang revealed that it will be ending official VR support for both PC and PSVR platforms starting in March of next year. This decision comes on the heels of Mojang’s earlier move to discontinue PSVR support for Minecraft, signaling a shift away from virtual reality integration in the popular sandbox game.
“After March of 2025, our ability to support VR/MR devices will come to an end, and updates will no longer include VR support,” Mojang stated in the notice. Despite the removal of VR capabilities, players will still be able to access their existing worlds and make purchases through the Marketplace using non-VR devices.
While the official VR support may be coming to an end, there are still options for players who enjoy playing Minecraft in virtual reality. Modders have created solutions such as Vivecraft for the Java edition, which supports LAN and server multiplayer, and Questcraft for Meta’s Quest headsets.
In addition to the VR news, Mojang also introduced new features in the Bedrock 1.21.40 update, including the full launch of the Bundles feature, which allows players to stack different blocks or items together in the same inventory slot to save space. The update also includes a new Hardcore mode, as Mojang continues to release content drops throughout the year instead of a single summer update.
As Minecraft evolves and adapts to changing technologies, players can expect to see more updates and features in the future, even as official VR support comes to an end.
