Dyson Unveils New Augmented Reality Feature to Help You Clean Like a Pro

Dyson, known for its innovative vacuum technology, is taking cleaning to the next level with the introduction of Dyson CleanTrace. This new feature on the MyDyson mobile app uses augmented reality to show you exactly which spots in your home still need to be cleaned.

The process is simple, but there are some requirements. Dyson CleanTrace is compatible with the Dyson Gen5detect cordless vacuum and requires a smartphone with a lidar scanner, such as an iPhone 15. Additionally, you’ll need a special clamp to attach your phone to the vacuum, although pricing for this accessory has not yet been announced. The feature is set to launch in June and will be available for free on the MyDyson app.

As you vacuum, the Gen5detect will leave behind a purple trail on the app, giving you a visual guide of the areas that have been cleaned. Dyson’s goal with CleanTrace is to help users replicate the methodical cleaning approach of their robot vacuums.

This isn’t the first time Dyson has incorporated innovative features into their vacuums. The Gen5detect already features a green headlight that illuminates dust on the floor, gradually dimming as you clean. With the addition of CleanTrace, users can now have a more comprehensive cleaning experience.

While Dyson has not confirmed if CleanTrace will be available on other vacuum models, there doesn’t seem to be any limitations beyond the smartphone clamp.
