Basemark Acquires €22 Million to Boost In-Car AR Software Solutions

Basemark, a leading provider of in-car augmented reality (AR) software solutions, has announced a successful acquisition of roughly €22 million to enhance its services. This funding boost will enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to create custom automotive extended reality (XR) applications, focusing on improving driver and vehicle operator safety.

Tero Sarkkinen, the Founder and CEO of Basemark, expressed his excitement about the new investors coming onboard, including Tesi and Constructor Capital, as well as the continued support from existing investor ETF Partners. Constructor Capital’s Founder, Serg Bell, brings valuable entrepreneurial experience to the table, aligning with Basemark’s vision to make driving safer and more enjoyable.

Basemark’s primary goal is to enhance driver safety through innovative AR heads-up displays (HUDs), which the company claims can increase driver awareness and overall safety on the road. The recent series B funding round will allow Basemark to scale its services and expand its reach in regions such as Europe and the United States, with plans to deepen partnerships with OEMs.

The company’s Rocksolid AR software development tools, including the Rocksolid AR SDK, provide a streamlined way for clients to design custom in-car AR services tailored to their specific needs. This technology aims to address the growing demand for AR applications in the automotive industry, offering real-time contextual guidance and alerts to improve the driving experience.

Rocksolid AR SDK includes advanced localization and motion tracking features to ensure that AR objects and HUD assets appear seamlessly from the driver’s perspective, minimizing visual inconsistencies related to motion and vibration. This technology simplifies the development process for OEMs, allowing them to focus on brand differentiation and creating immersive automotive AR experiences.

Remy de Tonnac, a Senior Partner at ETF Partners, emphasized the importance of supporting AR solutions like those offered by Basemark, especially as the automotive industry moves towards full autonomy and sustainable driving experiences. With projections estimating the automotive heads-up display market to reach USD 17.43 billion by 2032, Basemark is well-positioned to lead the AR/VR HUD technology revolution and drive innovation in the automotive sector.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve towards autonomous driving and sustainability, spatial data and AR technologies are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. Basemark’s commitment to enhancing driver safety and creating immersive AR experiences highlights the company’s dedication to driving innovation in the automotive industry.
