Exploring the World of Augmented Reality with Speed 3D
Following the NCCU-SNU-UT symposium on 17 October 2024, students and college of the three institutions visited Speed 3D, an organization specializing in Augmented Reality (AR) and associated technologies the next day.
Introduction to Speed 3D
Marvin Chiu, founder and CEO of Speed 3D, welcomed participants and briefly introduced the corporate. Monica Hsueh, Global Marketing Director of Speed 3D, presented the assorted products and cases which have been done and are in development. The company, established in 2014, began with creating photo-to-avatar applications after which expanded into AR solutions.
AR Solutions and Applications
The cases presented by Hsue include AR photo booths with Taiwanese baseball teams and the creation of AR filters for global clients to create viral marketing campaigns. She also shared insights for future technology developments in marketing and branding applications, including how 3D billboards will be more widely deployed and simply managed.
Interactive Session and Q&A
In the question-and-answer session following the presentation, students from the three institutions raised questions towards how the technology may very well be further applied in several scenarios. Prof Tammy Jih-Hsuan Lin, Distinguished Professor within the College of Communication of National Chengchi University, led the group and took part in experiencing the interactive photo booths of the corporate.
Reactions and Feedback
Participants from the University of Tokyo said the technology is fun and mentioned the technology demonstrated as “mature.” On the opposite hand, participants from Seoul National University saw opportunities for the technology developed by the corporate to have widespread applications in South Korea, especially against the backdrop of fan bases of the globally widespread Korean popular culture.
Conclusion and Future Plans
The NCCU-SNU-UT symposium is held annually in rotation among the many three institutions. The next edition can be held at Seoul National University. As for Speed 3D, the corporate continues to collaborate with corporations and organizations world wide to develop AR solutions, complemented by AI technology. With its revolutionary approach and cutting-edge technology, Speed 3D is poised to make a big impact on this planet of augmented reality. The visit to Speed 3D was a helpful experience for the scholars and college, providing them with insights into the most recent developments in AR technology and its potential applications in various fields.
