Leaked: Meta’s Next Virtual Reality Headset Rumored to be More Affordable – Introducing the Quest 3S
Meta’s Next Virtual Reality Headset, the Quest 3S, Leaked
Rumors have been swirling about Meta’s next virtual reality headset, and it seems that the name has been leaked. The upcoming mixed reality headset is reportedly going to be called the Quest 3S, according to a Quest Store listing spotted by UploadVR.
The listing shows the Quest 3S as a supported device, even though it has not yet been released to the market. This suggests that the Quest 3S will be the next headset to be launched by Meta.
At the time of writing, the Quest 3S is listed alongside existing headset models in the listing for various apps, including the Alo Moves XR app, as reported by The Verge. This indicates that the upcoming headset will have widespread functionality and support for a variety of applications.
Following the release of the Quest 3, which was criticized for being the most expensive headset yet, the Quest 3S is expected to be a more affordable alternative. The naming convention of adding an ‘S’ to the previous model’s name is reminiscent of Apple’s strategy for naming its smaller, cheaper versions of products.
During an internal presentation last year, Meta’s vice president of VR, Mark Rabkin, mentioned that a cheaper mixed reality headset was in the company’s product roadmap, codenamed Ventura. The goal, according to Rabkin, is to offer a high-quality VR experience at an attractive price point for consumers.
While not many details are known about the Quest 3S yet, speculation suggests that it could be released as early as this fall. Given the success of the Quest 3 in generating $1 billion in quarterly revenue for Meta, it is likely that the company will continue to innovate in the VR market.
