Introduction to HoloLens
Microsoft’s developer conference was an exciting event, and on my last day, I had the chance to check out the corporate’s futuristic headset, HoloLens. This device can overlay your real-world environment with interactive, three-dimensional images. I used to be invited to experience it, and I could not wait to see what it had to supply.
Preparing for the Experience
Before trying out HoloLens, I needed to follow some strict instructions. I used to be asked to depart all my belongings, including my smartwatch and phone, in a provided locker. This was done to be sure that I could fully deal with the experience with none distractions. I used to be then escorted to a room where I might learn the way to use the device.
Learning to Use HoloLens
In the room, I received a temporary lesson on the way to use HoloLens and interact with holograms. I learned that there are 3 ways to have interaction with holograms: through gaze, gestures, and voice. This was a vital a part of the experience, because it allowed me to know the way to navigate and control the device.
The Experience
After the lesson, I used to be led to a room with a table containing a landscape model decorated with plastic trees. In the center of the display was a big empty space, and I used to be asked to pretend that I used to be an architect tasked with designing a constructing to fill the void. I used to be given a Windows computer and mouse to make adjustments to a 3D constructing on the screen, identical to architects do now. As I worked, I used to be asked to have a look at the landscape model again, and this time, the constructing I used to be designing appeared as a hologram in the course of the table. Any adjustments I made on the pc screen were immediately reflected on the table.
Designing with HoloLens
Using HoloLens was a tremendous experience. I could design my very own constructing using a hologram and computer mouse, and it felt incredibly realistic. I could click on the screen, and the changes would seem immediately on the table. It was as if I used to be actually constructing the structure.
Overcoming Challenges
As I continued my journey as an architect, I encountered issues that I needed to resolve. I used to be reviewing 3D blueprints that had been superimposed onto a hotel wall when a message icon popped up, indicating a construction issue. A virtual contractor had discovered an issue with a load-bearing beam behind a wall where I planned to put in a door. A holographic expert advised me on what to do next and walked me through the suggested fixes. Every change was reflected in real-time, giving me a practical view of what the changes would seem like.
Conclusion
My experience with HoloLens was incredible, nevertheless it also left me with many questions. While it was fun to make use of the device, I’m undecided if it’s something I might find useful each day. There is numerous potential for HoloLens to rework our world, but only time will tell how big an impact the technology could have on consumers’ lives. As I left the conference and headed to the airport, I could not help but wonder what the longer term holds for this revolutionary technology.
