The virtual reality tool “live forever mode” creates digital avatars of deceased loved ones

The virtual reality tool called “live forever mode” is revolutionizing the way we interact with the deceased. Created by technology entrepreneur Artur Sychov, this tool features digital avatars that can simulate a person’s voice, mannerisms, and movements after just 30 minutes of observation. The goal is for these avatars to live forever online as a memory of their creators, allowing future generations to interact with them.

Artur’s inspiration for creating this tool came from his own personal experience when his father was diagnosed with cancer. He wanted a way to continue conversations with his father even after his passing, sparking the idea for “live forever mode.” The tool is currently being trialed at Somnium Space, a 3D metaverse platform in Prague, Czech Republic.

Users of the platform can access it with a virtual reality headset, existing as avatars that can engage in various activities such as playing games, creating artwork, attending events, and buying and selling virtual goods. The concept of immortality and continuing one’s legacy is a driving force for many users, who see the potential for their avatars to outlive them and be experienced by future generations.

However, there are concerns surrounding the ethical implications of such technology. Cyber psychologist Elaine Kasket warns about the existential fears being exploited for commercial gain and the potential risks of impersonation and data manipulation after a user’s death. As we navigate this new frontier of technology, it is essential to consider the long-term consequences on our legacies and the impact on our loved ones.

The “live forever mode” tool is set to officially launch later this year, with questions remaining about the subscription fee and the management of user data after their death. As we embrace the possibilities of extending our presence online, we must also be prepared for the complexities and challenges that come with it.
