Steelcase and Logitech Launch ‘Ocular View’ for Immersive Remote Collaboration
Steelcase, a leading workplace solutions researcher and designer, has partnered with Logitech, a hardware and software manufacturer, to introduce ‘Ocular View’ – an extended reality (XR) experience aimed at creating more immersive and engaging conversations in remote settings.
The collaboration between Steelcase and Logitech combines Steelcase’s expertise in hybrid collaboration insights and design with Logitech’s cutting-edge video collaboration technology, supporting popular software platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom. The goal of Ocular View is to make remote call participants feel as if they are physically present in the same room, enhancing the overall communication experience.
Christina Vernon, General Manager of Distributed Collaboration and Tech Partners for Steelcase, highlighted the motivation behind the development of Ocular View: “People need better hybrid collaboration options, especially in a time where video communication has become the norm. We wanted to create a more realistic experience to combat digital fatigue and improve connections between colleagues.”
The project, initially known as ‘Project Ghost’, was unveiled in its prototype form at Integrated Systems Europe in 2023. Ocular View is the result of extensive research into the needs of workers in hybrid communication and collaboration environments, with a focus on personal wellbeing, social connection, and privacy – all identified as top priorities for employees.
Ocular View is set within Steelcase Everwall (Orangebox Campers and Dens in Europe), providing a private and distraction-free space for one or two participants. The setup includes a sofa, small table, soft lighting, and an eye-level camera to enhance eye contact and foster a natural gaze during conversations.
Alex Mooney, Alliances and Go-To-Market Manager for Logitech, emphasized the human-centered approach of Ocular View: “Our goal was to create a more human connection where technology fades into the background, allowing people to engage with each other seamlessly. Ocular View offers a unique experience that prioritizes the engagement between individuals.”
Ocular View is currently available in North America and select European countries, with Everwall configurations set to launch in Summer 2024. The Orangebox version will be available in Europe in the summer of 2024 and in North American markets by the autumn and winter of 2024. This innovative collaboration between Steelcase and Logitech aims to revolutionize remote collaboration and redefine the way people connect in virtual environments.
