Introduction to XR Technologies in Education
Education strategies in the sphere of software and technologies of the long run, resembling XR technologies, don’t yet sufficiently meet the needs of the economy in Slovenia and Europe. There is a growing need for specific skills, while these technologies offer and enable alternative routes of teaching in practically all fields. XR technologies represent a brand new, modern digital and interactive medium. They are recognised as considered one of the important thing recent digital technologies within the EU, enabling modern and economically competitive solutions to be realised.
Project Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the project is to explore, test and exhibit the potential for using virtual, enriched and augmented reality technologies in primary and secondary education to guide and support the rational use of advanced technologies to update and improve the standard of the training process. The objectives of the project are to:
- Set up a multidisciplinary team composed of teachers and project partners and prepare proposals for the implementation of coaching modules to coach teachers in content development or in the usage of tools or the introduction of specific XR technology elements
- Deliver modular courses in numerous locations across Slovenia to extend the digital competences of goal groups (teachers, trainers, mentors, students, experts) in content development, use and teaching with the assistance of XR – Innovative Teaching for the twenty first Century
- Establish learning labs where teachers of partners can operate, where learning laboratories might be physically established, while making equipment more widely available
- Develop and encourage the event of recent modern pedagogical approaches and didactic tools in XR technologies
- Develop educational content and create an e-learning facility.
Target Groups and Key Activities
Target groups include teachers and pupils in primary schools, primary schools with tailor-made programmes; and institutions for the education and training of youngsters and adolescents with special needs, medium vocational and vocational schools and gymnasiums, education researchers, education policy makers. The key activities of the project are:
- Development of modules, contents, curricula and methodologies
- Teacher education and training – Development of tools and preparation of learning content
- Establishment of six learning laboratories
Funding and Project Timeline
The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 799,000, while the overall value of the investment is EUR 848,000. The project began in July 2024 and might be finalised in April 2026.
